About

Rebekah Pizana is a professional food writer, pastry chef and licensed business owner. Her first job as a teenager she spent working as a pastry assistant at Mary's Cakery in King George, Virginia. She learned cake decorating, industry-grade baking techniques, and would often bake 75 celebration cakes per day. Rebekah also successfully launched the bakery's cheesecake business and left in 2004 to earn her degree in Journalism.In 2008, Rebekah graduated from Patrick Henry College and by 2011 had spent 5 years as a food columnist for the Loudoun Times-Mirror. As a food writer, she gained valuable experience in the food industry doing everything from attending national food events, coordinating PR for local chefs, and participating in Loudoun County's annual chocolate gala (put on by the local YMCA) as a judge of pastry for two years and a presenter for 1 year. Rebekah has also spent time as a kitchen manager, in food & pastry retail and sales, and has worked as both a hostess and server in the food and hospitality industries.In January 2010, Rebekah started Gourmet Amore, a home cake business focusing both on weddings and food blogging. Her pastry work has been published in Brides Maryland and Brides Washington, D.C., (Condé Nast Publications) and by the online wedding magazine, StyleMePretty.com. Her pastries were sold at The Wine Kitchen in Leesburg, Virginia for over a year before she left to train in New York City in October 2010 working with chefs at Soho Grand Hotel and in retail for Vosges Haut Chocolat. She spent the summer of 2011 as a pastry intern at Jean-Georges Restaurant at Trump Tower, a restaurant that has earned 3-Stars from the Michelin Guide and 4-Stars from The New York Times. At Jean-Georges, Rebekah learned valuable pastry techniques in a fine-dining environment, chocolate science, precision, molecular gastronomy and how to use incredible tools in a professional kitchen. She also spent a short period of time working under the pastry chefs at Market Salamander and at VOLT Restaurant. Il Pioppo, a northern Virginia-based artisan wine distributor just started selling made in Italy panettone. I had a couple of slices of the award-winning Loison pasticerri sweet bread, and it changed my entire American panettone-first-thoughts.
